Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

One should never direct people towards happiness, because happiness too is an idol of the market-place. One should direct them towards mutual affection.

A beast gnawing at its prey can be happy too, but only human beings can feel affection for each other, and this is the highest achievement they can aspire to.

It was an interesting route to hit into “Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn“- as if, you can see what you want to see. Looks like I will have to dig his works more.

You only have power over people so long as you don’t take everything away from them.

But when you’ve robbed a man of everything he’s no longer in your power — he’s free again.

  1. Great words from a great man. Loved all the quotes and the last one, referring to yourself again? But so glad, you could hold on to his words as a source of inspiration.

Need to read more about him.

Thanks for sharing. You know, sometimes we need others to open the windows to enable us to see the beautiful view out there. That is, literally speaking. :)

I was watching back the Cloud Atlas. When the character, Sonmi, quote the last one (the movie reference it to Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, on screen)- it strike me and had to find him out.

Since awhile I’ve been thinking (and found that), we as a human usually have hard time to think outside of the box due to influence from situation, people or emotions- however when somehow we able to get to the state where we don’t expect anything from that situation, the people or when we’re sober from the emotion- a lot of times, it become super easy to understand things clearly. The last quote, explains it wonderfully- although in a different way!

And the first quote, in a way explains and confirms Tale: Generosity vs Wisdom. :)))

Thank you, BB- you’re right, others able to open windows we may not able to do alone. Sadly, while humans do things better with companions- somehow we tend to compete and bring unnecessary complexities on how we treat one-another.

Looks like I’ll have to write down few thoughts I got to understand better in the last few years and had been pondering about- may be will do sometime in the future- ;)
